General Troubleshooting Tips

  • For repetitive print defects always make sure to rule out toner cartridge even if it is brand new. If you use recycled toner cartridges make sure the company recycling them does not just refill them.

  • If the inside of the printer has toner all over your cartridge is probably bad and is spilling toner.

  • When moving or shipping your printer always remove toner cartridge before doing so.

  • Pickup rollers should have rough surface if they are slick, very smooth, they should be replaced. HP recommends cleaning with cloth and warm water, if this works it usually will not last long. You can use alcohol pads as last resort to get back in service.

  • Your eyes and ears are your best troubleshooting tool, look closely, use a flashlight, listen and try to determine if the startup and printing sounds are normal. Compare with known good printers and parts if you have this option.

Laser Cartridge & Laser Printer Help FAQ

Q. I have only printed half of the pages (about 2000 pages) that this cartridge is suppose to print (4000 pages), why does it say that the cartridge toner is low?

A. This is the most common and expensive problem people have with laser printers. Your toner level is not low just settled. Meaning your toner has settled below the sensor. Some people just buy another cartridge and replace what they think is an empty cartridge. Whenever your laser printer says the toner is low, take out the cartridge shake it (like the instruction say to do) and put it back in to your printer. 99% of the time this will fix the low toner warning. Also, by doing this you will probably get more prints from your cartridge than you have ever gotten before.

Q. I keep getting lines and gray areas on my printed pages, how do I fix his this?

A. Most of the time your drum (the glass looking thing, that the paper rolls over) is dirty. In your printers owners manual is instructions on how to clean the drum. Usually, you hold back the drum cover, turn the gear (it looks like a wheel with teeth) and wipe the drum with a oil & lint free cloth. Never clean or work on a Hot Laser Cartridge or Printer YOU CAN GET BRUNT. Do not touch the drum unit with you bare hand. This will leave skin-oil on the drum and ruin it.

Save 30% to 50% over the cost of 'new' cartridges. Take a look at the box your new cartridge came in.... often you will see a disclaimer that states "made of new and remanufactured materials". Most "new" cartridges are actually remanufactured!
